Troubled rapper DMX has filed for bankruptcy after racking up more than one million dollars in debts.
The hip-hop star, real name Earl Simmons, lodged legal papers at the United States Bankruptcy Court in New York City on Monday, revealing he has less than US$50,000 (A$55,426) in assets and debts of more than US$1 million.
The paperwork states his total debt ranges from between US$1 million to US$10 million, but at least US$1.2 million is owed in child support payments.
The news comes just days after he was arrested in South Carolina on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was later released without charge.
