Cadbury chocolate recall: Plastic found, NZ dispatch halted

A recalled Cadbury chocolate was due to arrive in New Zealand before foreign matter was discovered in the sweet treat.

Cadbury Australia recalled 10-piece sharebags of Marvellous Creations Jelly Popping Candy Beanies after plastic was found in the product.

Australians have been told to return the chocolate to retailers for a refund.

A Mondelez Australia spokesperson told the Herald that “the product hasn’t been sold in NZ, so no need for NZ customers or consumers to take any action”.

The chocolate was set to hit New Zealand shores before being shelved.

Vincent Arbuckle, New Zealand Food Safety deputy director-general, said the “product destined for New Zealand is on hold and has not reached the New Zealand market”.

The Ministry for Primary Industries had no further comment to add when approached by the Herald.

It is unclear whether any of the affected batch, dated best before May 21, 2026, was destined for retail in New Zealand.
