US comedienne Amy Schumer has fallen on her sword and admitted that some of her older jokes, namely one that mocks hispanic men, were not in great taste.
Schumer took to twitter on Monday to apologise, directly replying to Twitter user Martine Joelle who quizzed the comedienne about her "responsibilityas a storyteller".
"I used to do a lot of short dumb jokes like this," Schumer replied.
"I played a dumb white girl onstage. I still do sometimes. Once I realised I had more eyes and ears on me and had an influence I stopped telling jokes like that on stage.
"I am evolving as any artist. I am taking responsibility and hope I haven't hurt anyone and I apologise it (sic) I did. Thanks again for asking," she wrote.
Schumer has been under fire in recent months for the content of some of her jokes, including this particular one: "I used to date Hispanic guys, but now I prefer consensual."
Recently, Monica Heisey for The Guardian newspaper called her out for having a "shockingly large blind spot to race" and just two days ago The Washington Post published an opinion piece saying "only white America was laughing" at Schumer's jokes.
Previously, Schumer has tried to justify her material, saying audience feedback has been positive.
