Telecom's XT network offers central Aucklanders the best mobile internet speeds, according to an independent monitoring service.
In tests performed by TrueNet in late June across Auckland's inner suburbs, including the CBD, Mt Eden, Ponsonby, Greenlane, Mt Roskill and Western Springs, Telecom had the best download and upload speeds for users accessing the web on their mobile phone.
2degrees had the second fastest download speeds, while Vodafone's 3G network came in third.
For web browsing on a cellphone, the Telecom and 2degrees network took three seconds to open a dummy test page roughly while Vodafone took nine seconds - more than twice as long as its rivals.

TrueNet operator and former Telecom and Callplus executive, John Butt, explained the tests were conducted using a series of routers connected together, which contained a SIM card from each of the networks.
