Marina near Whangarei stalled

A resource consent application for a proposed $5 million marina has been stalled for two months while developers await further data.

Parua Bay Marina Developments is behind plans for the marina, about 20km southeast of Whangarei, which will offer services including power, water, fuel and a waste pump-out facility, as well as a new ablutions block and public boat ramp.

The project's manager, Dick Thorburn, said it was taking longer than first thought to assemble the relevant information.

Some iwi fear the marina will cause silting on nearby sandbanks and damage shellfish populations.
