Dubai-based airline Emirates said today it had received a huge response to adverts for additional Auckland staff prior to the start-up of its trans-Tasman services at the beginning of August.
Emirates, which already has a small team in Auckland, said 1567 people had applied for the 19 new positions advertised last month in New Zealand and on the company's employment website.
Of the applications, 768 were from within New Zealand, with the rest from all over the world.
The jobs available included positions in sales, airport services, cargo and accounts.
"We are confident that, from the large number of people who have applied, we will be able to get candidates of the appropriate calibre," Emirates' New Zealand manager Chris Lethbridge said.
Emirates will also recruit cabin crew in August at open days in Auckland and Christchurch.
Emirates will start daily flights from Auckland to both Sydney and Melbourne, and onward to Dubai and other international destinations, from August 2. Daily services through Brisbane will be added in October.
