Clandeboye dairy factory expands

The Fonterra dairy factory at Clandeboye in South Canterbury is set to become the second biggest plant in the world with the announcement that it will get a new milk powder drier.

The expansion is understood to cost more than $100 million.

The drier is to be operational for the 2004-2005 season and will have the capacity to process 3.7 million litres of milk a day.

Fonterra estimates the expansion will create about 25 jobs locally.
