Work will start next month on clearing a central-city site for Auckland University of Technology's new 10-level $35 million business faculty.
It is part of a $245 million expansion on two campuses.
By 2005, AUT will have revamped its Akoranga campus on the North Shore and its Wellesley campus in the city.
AUT deputy vice-chancellor Derek McCormack said the new business school, on the corner of Wakefield St and Mayoral Drive on the Wellesley campus in the central city, would cater for 5000 equivalent fulltime students.
AUT had more than 15,000 students this year and its roll had grown by a third in the past three years, he said.
Business faculty dean Des Graydon said the new Jasmax-designed business school would encourage students to gather informally and work together.
It had been designed to enhance learning and prompt students to network and consult one another as people in the business community did, he said.
Fletcher Construction has the contract to build the school, due to be finished by July 2005.
