Katrina Richards is not married to Cliff Richard but she has devoted 49 years of her life to the man. When she first saw the star on television she wasn't sure she liked him because "he was trying to be Elvis", but that soon changed. Now, she couldn't be any
more of a fan. The overwhelming amount of memorabilia adorning the shelves and walls of her St Johns home proves it. The most eccentric piece is a white shirt Cliff wore on the Stronger tour with a Kiwi drawn in black and white diamantes on the back - still with make-up on the collar. Mrs Richards has chaired the New Zealand Cliff Richard Fan Club since 1991. But this fan club does more than idol worship. Mrs Richards and her team donate thousands to their hero's charities such as the evangelical Tear Fund, and fan club events also fundraise to make a difference in the New Zealand community. To celebrate Cliff bringing 50 years of music into their lives, fans will be invited to lay a gold coin trail spelling out "50" at Botany Town Centre on Saturday, April 5. There will also be a Class of 58 concert, on April 26 at 8pm at Waipuna Lodge in Panmure, fronted by Shane Cortese. Money raised from the events will go equally towards the Starship hospital and Tear Fund.
Tickets to the Class of 58 concert are $45 each; book by phoning 027 344 5934 or by email: katrinaj@xtra.co.nz.
