A flash mob to rival all others for colour took place on Sunday as part of the celebrations for the Indian Holi festival, also known as the festival of colours.
The mob of 75 surprised the crowd at the Telstra Clear Pacific Centre in Manukau to spread some joy through
the bright splashes of colour that typify the Indian festival.
In December, a similar flashmob in downtown Auckland became an online hit when the video, set to a popular Indian song by Dhanush "Why this Koloveri Di", saw it featured on CNN USA and the Times of India. The song itself was a viral hit too - its popularity widened through social media and its quirky mix of being "Tanglish" (Tamil and English).
That was Padma Akula's first shot at getting a mob together and inspired by its online success, this time Akula created a bigger flashmob. It was set to the song, 'Sachin Anthem' which pays tribute to cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
The Holi festival usually features people throwing coloured powder at each other to celebrate the arrival of spring - or in New Zealand's case Autumn.
