There's no such concern for chalkers - they have their feet firmly on the ground or at their computers.
Aotea Square is the main place of action for the Random Acts, in its third year, but some are also taking place in Elliot and Lorne Streets.
It's all about combining street and theatre and engaging passers-by in it.
Chalk Thoughts is a new component, explains The Edge communications manager Josie Campbell.
"It's to surprise and delight passersby-especially at the busiest time of the year before Christmas," she says.
Chalk Thoughts gives anyone the chance to write their thoughts down on a blackboard.
"Actually it's not black, it's painted colourfully", says Josie. People can write whatever they like, she says.
"It's about creative freedom and summer and fun."
Every day there's a different theme or question to write about, that Josie comes up with in the morning. As well as on the street, it's online through Twitter and the hashtag #chalkthoughts
Josie says Chalk Thoughts is designed to be "really interactive - analogue or digital - for people to write down their pearls of wisdom".
She says it gives people a great chance to engage in a discussion about their city.
Chalk Thoughts runs until Sunday, December 11.
