World and The Warehouse have worked together to create cheap, classy children's T-shirts for a good cause. Alice Hudson reports
Good news for young fashionistas ? The Warehouse is selling children's T-shirts designed by Kiwi fashion house World. Better news for mums, dads and youngsters alike is the ''everyone gets a
bargain'' price ? $15 for all sizes ? and the kudos for your social conscience, knowing $5 from every shirt sold goes to the Starship Foundation. There's five designs to choose from, in sizes infant to 14 years. All feature the brand name World, and the shirts come in black, pink, white, navy blue and a very fashionable green. World co-director Denise L'Estrange-Corbet says the T-shirts will hopefully encourage children to help others. ''We want people to feel good that they've been able to support a national cause like Starship, and that's why we know kids of all ages will wear these T-shirts with pride.'' Starship Foundation chief executive Andrew Young says the proceeds from the limited edition T-shirts will be used to support the New Zealand TelePaediatric Service, a video conferencing network which connects doctors and nurses, live, through TV screens across the country. ''We need to be able to spread expertise to help kids, no matter where they live, as specialists are scattered right across the country.'' The network costs $500,000 a year to maintain, he says, and the T-shirt sales will go a long way to helping Kiwi youngsters. ''This is a big first for the Starship Foundation, in that it's designed for children, to help other children.'' The T-shirts are available at all Warehouse stores.
