It's a bit of a love triangle with Dex and Rachel having met as law students before she introduced him to her best friend, Darcy. Now Darcy and Dex are planning a wedding when Rachel chooses to reveal she has always had a crush on him.
A dizzying flash between Rachel and Dex's law school days and the present situation, where she's just slept with him, plays out.
Scenes for those who love the romance overflow with Dex offering Rachel a pen when she drops hers pre-lecture, and wiping a tear from her eye during a study session.
"It's not even that funny is it," she shrieks as laughter causes her to cry.
No, it's not.
Though I suspect the viewer is meant to feel some sympathy for Darcy when Rachel and Dex inevitably hook up, the task is easier said than done given that Darcy is more the girl you love to hate than the girl you want as your best friend.
Well, she had just made Rachel's birthday speech all about herself and sent Dex back to the party to get her $2000 purse, having been carried home.
Any good chick flick has a bridal gown-fitting scene but it felt like Something Borrowed was too keen to tick it off.
The "bridal moment" sees Darcy crying as she stands in her perfect gown.
"I want to cry on my wedding day so I'm just checking my mascara," she offers in explanation for the tears.
I found the flashes between past and present difficult to keep up with and as Rachel once again reflected on time lost and what she should have done, I decided to do the same and pulled the ripcord.
This one took chick flicks too far for me.
