Resembling a post, he pou taonga gives New Zealanders an opportunity to share the story of their personal journey through the contemporary oral medium, the telephone. Any member of the public representing the wide array of Auckland's communities is invited to approach he pou taonga and engage with the installation, sharing their story. Stories are encouraged to align with one of the guiding principles of Matariki Festival 2013, 'Manaakitanga: sharing your world with others'.
He pou taonga will have a physical presence around Auckland at a range of Matariki Festival events, with the stories forming part of an immersive audio installation, played inside Silo 6 at Auckland's Silo Park during the final weekend of the Matariki Festival 2013, from July 20th-21st.
Silo Cinema presents 'Billy T: Te Movie'
In further celebration of Matariki, Silo Cinema will remember NZ's favourite comedian, Billy T James with a screening of 'Billy T: Te Movie' on Saturday 20 July. This family-friendly documentary chronicles a Kiwi legend, and includes interviews and remastered footage. The film will kick off at 7pm and, as always, will be accompanied by a night market, food stalls and the Silo Park bar - providing a fantastic night out for Aucklanders, and those who want to introduce their kids to the great on-screen characters he was known for. View the trailer here.
Saturday also plays host to day and night markets featuring some of Aucklanders' favourite Silo Market vendors, and food from Stumpy's, Langos, Lucky Taco and more. Furthermore, visitors can check out a series of light installations, projections and sculptures that will be dotted around Silo Park. On Sunday 21 July, guests can view a selection of installations which appeared at other events around Auckland, throughout the Matariki Festival.
