Reward offered
Diamond and Time jewellery store in Broadway, Newmarket, is offering a substantial reward for information leading to the recovery of $215,000 of stock stolen in a raid about 3 pm on Sunday, February 25. Three Polynesian men smashed display cases in the shop. They had got out of a stolen Subaru Legacy stationwagon parked in Morrow St by a fourth offender. The Newmarket police (524-4195 or 529-5664) want to hear from anybody who can identify the offenders. They can be seen on security camera stills on the Auckland Police website. Go to the "unsolved crimes" section, then "general thefts."

Bottled Coca-Cola went on sale for the first time today in 1894 after Dr John Pemberton combined coca leaves and kola nut. In the first year, the doctor sold six drinks a day and lost money, so he sold his creation. He died before it caught on. The Coca-Cola Company now sells more than 834 million drinks a day.
