A explosive found by a Turakina dairy farmer will be detonated this afternoon and police are urging people to stay away from the area.
Police were called to a farm earlier this morning after the bomb or incendiary device was dug up.
The device was discovered on private property about 22km south of Wanganui on Turakina Beach Road.
The area had previously been used by the Air Force as a bombing range and the large device was located approximately 2-3km in from the road.
The area is currently cordoned off and the farm evacuated.
The Defence Force Explosives Ordinance Disposal (E.O.D) team have been called and are are currently on site.
The public are urged to stay away from this area while the Defence Force deal with the device.
The device will be detonated shortly, so some noises may be heard by members of the public.
