This winter, you can give warmth and comfort to a Kiwi kid living in deprivation.
Every child deserves the same basic things to fully participate in life, especially at school and during the cold winter months. Sadly, there are hundreds of children on our waiting list who are cold going without basic essentials this winter.
11-year-old Leontae lives with her family in shocking housing conditions, without even the most basic water and cooking facilities.
Her whole family sleeps in bunks in their lounge because it's the one room with a heater. They don't have enough blankets so being in the room together is their only option. Read more about Leontae's family in THIS article in the New Zealand Herald
Paying the gas bill is impossible so there's no gas for the cooking or hot water. When the children need a bath, Leontae's mother boils the kettle, which she worries is very expensive. Can you imagine considering the cost when you put the kettle on?
As you know, living in such poor housing conditions has wide-reaching impacts for children like Leontae. The Kiwi kids who are living in poverty are three times more likely to end up in hospital.
It's right now, during winter, when children living in deprived conditions are the most vulnerable to illness. If they're shivering all night and wearing only a threadbare t-shirt to school, of course they get sick.
But you can make a huge difference with your donation today. You can provide children like Leontae with winter basics like more bedding, a warm coat or closed in shoes. Your help is tailored to the individual needs of each child.
We can't keep up with the requests for help during these cold months. Will you sign up to sponsor a Kiwi kid in need today?
