Thirty firefighters and eight fire engines are at ASB bank on Queen St in central Auckland.
Fire and Emergency spokesman Paul Radden said there was smoke on the second flood of the building.
He said they were trying to find out where the smoke was coming from.
The corner of Queen and Wellesley Sts is cordoned off and water is flooding down the hill.
