A fire at a Wellington school classroom block has been brought under control, the Fire Service says.
Shift manager Mike Wanoa said they received multiple 111 calls about 5pm reporting smoke in the area near Otari School on Wilton Rd.
They soon discovered the classroom block was "fully involved", but about 5.30pm the fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control.
There is no indication anybody was inside the building.
Wanoa said there were still 20 or more firefighters at the scene, and fire investigators were on their way.
Police were called to the incident shortly after 5pm and are at the scene to assist with traffic control and liaise with fire staff.
A post on the school's Facebook page said the fire was in the hall and store room.
"No one was hurt. There is damage which is being assessed. Could you please avoid coming to school on Saturday night or Sunday as we need to ensure the site is safe and having sightseers will not help. We will send a further update once we have more information to share," the post said.
