A 3-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being hit by a car in a driveway in Auckland.
Police say the child was hit just after 9.30am in Papakura and was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition.
He remained in a critical condition in the hospital's intensive care unit on Saturday afternoon.
It is understood a family member was driving the car that reversed into the 3-year-old in the driveway of a house on Eastburn St. The boy lives at the home with his parents and four older siblings.
Inspector Kay Lane told the Herald it was an awful situation.
Police, including the Serious Crash Unit, remained at the scene this morning.
