A person was in Dunedin Hospital overnight after they were hit in the head with a baseball bat inside their home in Northeast Valley at the weekend.

Senior Sergeant Shona Low, of Dunedin, said two or three people entered the Craigleith St address on Saturday and assaulted a person with a bat, inflicting head injuries.

The people were known to the victim and the assault was not gang-related, Snr Sgt Low said.

No arrests had been made as yet but police were following positive lines of inquiry, she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
