A man charged with the murder of a 5-year-old Christchurch boy will appear in court today.
Leon Michael leFleming Jayet-Cole died in Christchurch Hospital on May 29 after an ambulance found him with serious head injuries at his Papanui home two days earlier.
Canterbury police have arrested a 34-year-old man, who will appear in Christchurch District Court today.
The identity of the man has not been revealed but he was known to the victim, police said.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Anderson said the police were working with government agencies to build a full picture of what led to the tragedy.
"The dedicated investigative team will continue to work tirelessly to ascertain why a 'normal' day for Leon ended as it did," he said.
A post mortem was carried out on Friday afternoon and police and victim support were working with Leon's immediate family.
