A 4WD vehicle got stuck on the steps of K Rd's popular St Kevin's Arcade last night after its driver mistook the shopping centre for a car park.
Sound engineer Tom Anderson was at the downstairs Wine Cellar bar when he heard a "massive bang" about 11.30pm.
When he went to investigate, he found a Ford Territory stuck at the top of the steps leading from K Rd to Myers Park.
"They'd driven down and managed to get their front axle lodged on the steps of the arcade, going down into Myers Park, which caused quite a bit of damage to the steps.
"They then tried to reverse out, trying to get it out to no avail."
Mr Anderson said the driver must have turned into the arcade from the pedestrian crossing on K Rd.
He was told they had been looking for a car park - but what they thought was a ramp turned out to be the stairs.
"It's fairly unusual, in all my years of going to St Kevin's Arcade," Mr Anderson said.
The occupants of the car tried to push it up the steps, but Mr Anderson called police because he suspected they had been drinking.
