The Bay of Plenty has been rattled by a 5.4 magnitude earthquake.
It struck 10 kilometres south-west of Tauranga at a depth of 300 kilometres at 7.16am.
GNS Science says it was strong enough to have been felt in parts of Wellington and Levin.
