Western Australia teacher Naomi Craig pleads guilty to 15 child sexual abuse charges

A Western Australia school teacher accused of sexually abusing a teenager then giving birth to his baby has pleaded guilty to 15 charges of child sexual abuse.

Naomi Tekea Craig, 33, appeared in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday accused of sexually abusing a child aged under 16.

Craig was initially charged with persistently engaging in sexual conduct with a child aged over 13 and under 16 between August 2024 and December last year.

She was due before Mandurah Magistrates Court to face an additional three counts of sexual penetration of a child, possessing child exploitation material and two counts of indecently dealing with a child.

On Tuesday, police confirmed Craig was hit with an additional eight charges including five counts of sexual penetration of a child, two more counts of sexually penetrating a child aged over 13 and under 16 and one count of indecent dealings of a child aged under 13.

Craig appeared in court via an audio link.

Magistrate Clare Cullen read out all 15 charges to Craig who pleaded guilty to each one.

“Guilty, your honour,” Craig said as each charge was read out in court.

Cullen fast-tracked the matter to the higher District Court where Craig is due to appear on March 27.

Craig’s bail was extended under the condition that she does not have any unsupervised contact with a child other than her infant.

She was employed as a teacher at the Frederick Irwin Anglican School at Meadow Springs and has been suspended while the matter progresses through the courts.

Western Australia Police Commissioner Col Blanch confirmed last week a DNA test had been conducted and police believed the woman gave birth to a baby that was fathered by the child she is accused of sexually assaulting.
