West Virginia church benefits from man's lottery win

Record Powerball lottery winner Andrew "Jack" Whittaker said he would give Senior Pastor C. T. Mathews, of the Tabernacle of Praise in West Virginia, a US$334,000 ($651,199) cheque, the first instalment on the church's share - the traditional 10 per cent tithe - of his US$170 million ($331.4 million) gross winnings.

Whittaker held the only winning ticket in last week's record Powerball drawing.

He has said he'll give much of the money to his family.

He is president of three construction companies and was already a millionaire before winning the lottery.
