Video captures shark frenzy metres from shore at Gold Coast surf spot

A shark feeding frenzy in Australia was caught on camera as dozens of the predators swam in shallow water near the shore.

Numerous videos on social media captured the scene at Snapper Rocks, a popular surf spot on the Gold Coast, yesterday.

The sharks were lured just metres from the shore by a bait ball, a large, densely packed cluster of fish, Australian media have reported.

Video shows the sharks thrashing around in the water, while beachgoers watch on.

The surf spot’s waters were unusually quiet due to the predators’ presence and overcast conditions.

9News reported that one brave surfer tried to catch some waves while a group of hearty fishers dropped their lines near the bait ball.

According to Australian media, bait balls are a common occurrence along the country’s east coast.

They often force beach closures as they attract sharks.

Earlier this month, a surfer was bitten twice by a shark in South Australia and drove himself to hospital afterwards.
