WA Police confirmed yesterday that DNA testing had been carried out and they were now seeking to lay three additional charges, according to 7 News.
Craig will now also stand accused of sexually penetrating a child aged between 13 and under 16, indecently dealing with a child over 13 and under 16, and indecent dealing with a child under 13.
“The matter is before the court, but I think more generally it is a very serious and heinous [alleged] offence in relation to child sex offences in our community,” said WA Police Commissioner Col Branch.
“We should all be shocked by any of these allegations that young people are being preyed upon in our community.
“I’m not going to speak specifically to this matter but if it is by a person in a position of authority or care of another, it’s even more aggravating.”
The school confirmed in a letter to parents last month that Craig had been suspended pending the investigation and ordered not to return to the college.
“I regret to inform you that a teacher from our school has been arrested by police and charged with child-related offences not involving any current student,” wrote principal Tracey Gray.
“The information available to the school suggests there is no need for concern for any other children at the school.”
WA Premier Roger Cook said yesterday, “I think we’re all confronted and disturbed by the reports that we’ve seen in relation to that issue,” adding “I do stress that that matter is before the courts, so I won’t make further comment”.
News.com.au previously reported Craig married her long-term partner in 2019 and the couple share a three-year-old-son.
Craig is due in the Mandurah Magistrates Court next Tuesday, and is expected to attend virtually, according to 9 News.
