A person was shot in an incident involving the United States Border Patrol in Arizona near the US-Mexico border today NZT, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
The person was in critical condition when medical crews arrived at the scene about 7.37am local time inArivaca, an unincorporated community in Pima County, according to a news release from the Santa Rita fire district.
The person, who has not been identified, was transferred by helicopter to a regional trauma centre.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department statement, attributed to Sheriff Chris Nanos, confirmed the Border Patrol’s involvement in the shooting.
Nanos said his office was working “in co-ordination with the FBI Phoenix-Tucson office and US Customs and Border Protection”.
The circumstances leading to the shooting were not immediately clear.
CBP did not immediately respond to a request for comment by the Washington Post.
