New Zealander arrested for bomb hoax in Singapore

A 35-year-old New Zealander is under arrest in Singapore after allegedly sending a hoax e-mail bomb threat on the same day that terrorist hijackers destroyed the World Trade Center.

The man, a manager for IBM, was arrested while waiting to board a Singapore Airlines flight to South Africa.

The flight was delayed for several hours before being cleared for takeoff. Singapore police have not identified the man nor have they said when he is to appear in court.

Sending a false message about a bomb is punishable in Singapore by up to seven years in jail and a fine of up to $NZ69,000.
