Human remains believed to be a missing snorkeller – who disappeared while diving in the waters off a small Western Australian coastal town – have been found.
The tragic turn in the desperate search for Wen “Walter” Ren Gu emerged on Tuesday, days after he vanished at Ledge Point Beach,north of Perth.
WA Police said they had received information that human remains had washed ashore on Fence Reef Beach, north of Ledge Point.

Gu, 32, was last seen snorkelling in the waters off the small coastal town on New Year’s Day.

A widespread search commenced, with two Lancelin Volunteer Marine Rescue vessels, as well as personnel on jet-skis, Police Airwing officers and Police divers assisting with the search.
“Formal identification is yet to be completed but it is believed to be a 32-year-old man who went missing on January 1, 2026,” a WA Police spokeswoman said.
“His death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.”
