The horses’ owner managed to round them up safely with the help of police officers, Inspector Tim Cuthbert said.
Locals described the outrageous scene to local media.
“It was a mad scene, one minute it’s a quiet Sunday evening and the next it’s like the Wild West,” a witness told Birmingham Live.
“Luckily the horses stampeded down the road at a quiet time, otherwise someone could have got hurt.”
“My friend said his dad had parked his car but the horses dented it when they ran past,” another neighbour said.
“They also went in people’s gardens and flattened the odd flowerbed but I hear they were all okay.”
The dramatic footage had social media users tickled, with several sharing their theories on who initiated the jailbreak.
“Bet you the Shetland was the ringleader,” one Facebook user wrote.
“A pony did that. A pony definitely organised and orchestrated it all,” another opined.
“Bet it was the smallest that broke free,” a third commenter said, adding “horses are too sensible, it’s little buggers you have to watch”.
“Must be trying to hit the pub for last orders!” a fourth commenter joked.
