A five-day-old baby girl has died in Florida after police say the family's pet bit bull climbed into her crib and attacked her.
Investigators with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office say they are looking into the circumstances surrounding the newborn's mauling death, which has been ruled an accident.
No criminalcharges are expected to be filed against the victim's family members who were present during the incident a week ago, the Daily Mail reports.
According to an incident report, at 12.20am on November 11, first responders arrived at an address on West Ranchetta Street in Dunnellon for a report of a dog attack, reported Citrus County Chronicle.
Deputies with the sheriff's office walked in on a grandfather performing CPR on the infant.
A deputy then took over the life-saving measures and proceeded to perform chest compressions on the baby, who was described as still somewhat responsive at the time.
According to the child's grandmother, the family's pit bull jumped onto a bed that was positioned next to the bassinet where the newborn was sleeping and started biting her. The woman was not in the bedroom when that happened.
The baby's grandfather later walked in and pulled the pit bull off of child.
