An Melbourne woman on holiday in Thailand with her family has died while swimming at a beach in the resort town of Phuket.

Barbara Fistrovic, 65, and her husband Ivan, 75, were swimming in dangerous conditions at Kamala Beach in Phuket on Sunday when they were swept away by powerful waves, the Phuket News reported.

Fistrovic was listed on LinkedIn as an employee of the Smith Family in Melbourne, who confirmed today that one of their staff members had died in Thailand.
