Indonesian police hope that Abu Bakar Bashir, the alleged spiritual leader of the terrorist network Jemaah Islamiyah, will be linked to the Bali bombings during his treason trial this week.
Bali bombing chief investigator Made Mangku Pastika said for the first time at the weekend that he hoped the 64-year-old extremist would be implicated in the attack last October in which 202 people, including three New Zealanders and 88 Australians, died.
"I hope that the court will get that link. That's very, very important," Pastika said.
The alleged field commanders in Bali, Imam Samudra and Ali Imron, will travel under armed guard from Denpasar in Bali to Jakarta to testify in Bashir's treason trial on Wednesday.
