Staying at the Sheraton Aggie Grey's in Apia

Reception: From the grand foyer you know you have arrived somewhere special, definitely the most organised and professional porter service I've experienced in Samoa.

Room: The hotel rooms are exceptional for their comfort, appointment and cleanliness.

Our poolside superior room was a stately size with a big balcony. The famous Aggie Grey bungalows are another level of indulgence and seclusion with a luxurious fale-style theme.

Price: From $240 per night (for a standard "classic" room, includes breakfast).

Bedroom view: Massive sliding windows overlook the oasis-like swimming pool surrounded by palm trees and native plants.

Room facilities: The room has everything expected of the luxury brand and a generous amount of Wi-Fi is free of charge — a rarity. The signature Sheraton robe and slippers top off the salubrious feel.

Toiletries: The Sheraton offers the whole suite of toiletries, with razors and toothbrushes included.

Bathroom: Again the five-star standard is justified, classically styled.

Exercise facilities: A fresh-water family swimming pool, a separate lap pool, a casino, spa and gym.

Noise: Once you're behind closed doors the outside world is far, far away.

Food and drink: All meals are served under the spectacular roof of the main fale. The breakfast buffet covers the whole spectrum of morning cravings — right up to creamy mushroom with bacon and egg. The dinner menu is extensive but not exhaustive with a good balance of local and global. Oka, the traditional coconut marinated fish starter, was delicious.

Perfect for: Equally suited to a romantic couple's getaway or a family.

Would I return: Certainly, and it has piqued my interest in the hotel brand.
