Intrepid Travel offers $7000 'mystery' journey of cold showers and lengthy hikes

Would you pay $7000 for 22 days of cold showers, intermittent electricity, lengthy hikes, a healthy dose of fermented mare's milk – and no clues to where you're going or what you'll see?

A new 'Unchartered Expedition" from adventure travel company Intrepid Travel offers just that – a mystery itinerary through Central Asia, visiting towns and villages which can't be found on Google Maps.

For the 10 travellers brave enough to take on this 3500km journey into the unknown, the only information provided will be the start and end points of the trip – Astana, Kazakhstan and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Intrepid Travel co-founder Darrell Wade says this trip is unlikely to appeal to anyone but the most courageous travellers, with a hefty price tag of $7005 per person, excluding flights.

"You won't know where you're going, what you'll see, where you'll stay or what you'll be eating. There'll be long travel days, intermittent electricity and WiFi, a few cold showers, and a few treats along the way though, including fermented mare milk."

The expedition departs June 30 next year and has been designed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the launch of the company.

"When we first started out and we wanted to go somewhere new, we'd place a classified ad in the newspaper, calling for intrepid people to join us on research trip," he says. "Thirty years later we go to more than 120 countries and we still get a thrill out of discovering new places with our most curious travellers."
