Fine dining needn't break the bank. Jane Jurgens looks at the cheapest places to experience Michelin-starred food.
1. Singapore
At Chan Hon Meng's street food stall in the hawker centre at Smith Street's Chinatown Complex, in Singapore you can get a one-Michelin-starred soya sauce chicken and rice for$2. But be prepared to wait — ever since he got his Michelin star last year, Meng's stall has attracted queues that can last for hours.
2. Hong Kong
Hong Kong's legendary dim sum joint Tim Ho Wan has long been the benchmark for cheap Michelin thrills. The Kowloon branch lost its starin 2016, but its sister establishment Sham Shui Po at North Point still holds the honour. You can eat well for about $10.
On the barstools at Barrafina, a London tapas bars, you can watch while the kitchen staff prepare the award-winning food. A drink and a couple of tapas will set you back around $25.
4. Tokyo
There are only 10 seats in Fukamachi, the little tempura restaurant located down a side alley in Tokyo's Ginza district. But if you're lucky enough to squeeze in, you'll see the chefs at work preparing amazing Japanese cuisine. You can get a light lunch for around $30.
5. Barcelona
A three-course lunch at Nectari, in Barcelona will set you back $60. That's a bargain given you'll be eating at a restaurant regarded by some as the finest in Barcelona.
