Anthony Wynands heading for a victory in the Moffett Orchards Farmers Challenge with a sheep over his shoulder at the Elsthorpe Sports Club's annual sports day this month.
Great weather and grounds in perfect order greeted a large crowd at the Elsthorpe Sports Club's 115th annual sports day on Saturday, January 14.
Club secretary Lucie Gilbertson said entry numbers were strong, providing good competition in all events.
"The kindergarten ponies, fat lamb and dog trials were all
keenly contested, while the newly-introduced Moffett Orchard Farmers' Challenge was a real crowd pleaser," she said.
Competitors in the farmer's challenge had to roll a wool bale, assemble a chainsaw, reverse a 4WD and trailer through a zig-zag course, carry a sheep, kick a goal and other tasks in the quickest time, Gilbertson said.
The winner of the inaugural challenge was Anthony Wynands in a time of 3:45mins, which Gilbertson predicted would be a record that will be hard to beat.
