Stockcar competitors from throughout New Zealand will converge on Taranaki this weekend to compete for the PGG Wrightson Hawera, New Zealand Stockcar Grand Prix Championship.
Hosted by Stratford Speedway, more than 100 competitors have entered the event and will start arriving on Thursday, bringing a boost to the regional economy.
Drivers who are unfamiliar with the Stratford track or want to do some last minute car adjustments will take part in a practice on Thursday evening before hitting the track on Friday night when they attempt to qualify for the finals on Saturday.
The competitors will be whittled down to 30 — ensuring the best and fastest make it through to the finals.
On Saturday night, the finalists will race over three brutal heats, accumulating points for their finishing positions along the way and it will be these points that decide the winner.
