Stratford High School's top achieving senior students were recognised last Thursday afternoon at the annual senior prizegiving.
Kody Simpson, head boy, was awarded school Dux and says it was a goal he had strived for all year after being awarded the top academic prize in Year 12 last year, "I wanted to finish my final year at school on the same positive note." In 2016 Kody will be attending Auckland University, where he received a $50,000 scholarship.
Nicholas Hornby was named as Proximate Accessit and will be attending the University of Canterbury next year.
Recipient of the Roodbeen Trophy for Best All Round Senior Student was Sarah Kowalewski. Sarah has been involved in a wide range of school activities including peer support, peer tutoring, the SADD group, Relay for Life, 40 Hour Famine, ball committee, Stage Challenge, Lions Music Awards and the school variety concert. She has been involved in a wide variety of interhouse, school, inter-school and TSSSA sporting activities such as cricket, football, athletics and triathlon. Sarah was also the chairperson of the student council this year. Next year she will be studying at Waikato University.
Past student Maggie Radich was the guest speaker at the prizegiving. Maggie was head girl in 2008 and from Stratford she went to Otago University in 2009. Maggie has since completed a Master of Dietetics and works as a clinical dietician at Taranaki Base Hospital.
