Registrations open next Wednesday for the Stratford Library Holiday Reading Programme, and children's librarian Sally Caskey says the programme will be fun.
"It is all about enjoying reading and talking about books in a fun and friendly environment."
The programme is open to primary school-aged children, who should come inwith their parent or caregiver to sign up for the programme.
"They report in to the library four times over the six weeks. Each time they do, they receive a small incentive to keep them on track. If they come in four times they will be invited to the final, where they receive a medal, a certificate and a book."
Sally says the children are asked to talk about the books they are reading, which helps them to build confidence as well as forming relationships with the library staff.
"It's really helpful for them in the future, as they feel able to ask for help when they are looking for a new author to try or want some help finding information for a school project."
Sally says it doesn't matter if children are reluctant readers or avid bookworms.
"They all gain from the programme and will all be able to take something away from it. Children often drop a reading level over the holidays, so the programme is a way to help them keep their skills up as well as having fun."
