Last year, 15,000 people came through the gates at the Stratford A&P Showgrounds to enjoy the annual A&P Show and this year numbers are expected to be similar, says show secretary Christine Hughes.
This year is the 106th year Taranaki folk of all ages will flock to the showgrounds to enjoy the annual show and wide range of attractions and exhibits.
Much has changed since the early years, when people dressed in their Sunday best to walk, ride on horseback or travel in gigs and drays to what was a huge social event for the town. Nowadays people mainly drive or walk to the event, and Sunday best has been replaced with jeans, overalls and redbands for many. However one thing hasn't changed - the popularity of the event itself.
Christine says this year the emphasis is on children and families. Peneloberry the clown will entertain, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Elmo will be mixing with the kids for photo opportunities once again.
The ever-popular McDonald Farm Barn will be running, and is a must-see for youngsters. A huge array of animals will be on show, including many young animals that can be petted and handled.
