Bupa Care Services has confirmed its purchase of the Elizabeth R Rest Home and Hospital.
"We are really excited about taking over Elizabeth R, aged care is our passion," says Grainne Moss, the managing director of Bupa.
She is "very proud" of the care Bupa delivers and that the company
is now the largest provider of aged care beds in New Zealand.
Grainne is confident Stratford people will see advantages from the change of ownership. Unions say Bupa offers more training than other companies and that investment in staff training will benefit the community, she says.
Asked about the future of the maternity facility housed at Elizabeth R, Grainne says it is business as usual. Bupa owns the premises and is in negotiation with midwives and the District Health Board regarding contracts and employment conditions.
