INGLEWOOD Lions Club members, from left, Tom McEwen, Pat Julian, Raewyn Wellington and Jean Julian, sorting through piles of old and foreign coins and banknotes, part of a nationwide Lions Clubs fundraiser for youth and young peoples’ activities. Lions Clubs are collecting all the old coins and notes now out
of circulation, and the Reserve Bank will pay them 75% of the money’s face value. The bank estimates there is over $80million in old currency sitting round in drawers, jars and cupboards. The Inglewood Lions have so far collected 17 kilograms of coins, including Irish Punts, two 1000 Yugoslavian dinar notes, an 1886 halfpenny and a Biafran one pound. The collection dates have been extended to mid-August and coins can be dropped off at Fun Ho Museum in Inglewood, Paper Plus in Stratford and BP Eltham, Eltham 4 Square or TSB Eltham.
