Talented young Stratford artists are currently exhibiting their work at Stratford's Percy Thomson Gallery.
This opportunity arose from a 'Youth Art Comp' organised by the Stratford District Youth Council.
Over 30 keen artists entered the contest with cash prizes up for grabs.
On Monday evening, the exhibition 'Kidz Show 2007', was opened and
winners were announced.
Ashleigh Rowland won $300 and the McDonald Real Estate Ltd Trophy, with her piece titled 'Prehistoric'. Judith Stewart with 'Barricades' and Chris Jager with 'A Dog's View' came second equal. Lauren Darrah with 'Inside Out' placed third. Lauren Rowland - 'Dormant Inferno', Jesse Langton - 'Dan Carter', Nikita Cox - 'The Square Outside', Hayley Miller - 'The Milk Bar' and Chantaluck Chartuthit - 'The Random' received highly commended awards.
Fiona Clarke, Joanne Wilkes and George McArthur judged the impressive collection of art.
Entrants were given two months, a blank canvas and five tubes of paint (black, white, blue, yellow and red) to complete their masterpieces.
Gallery Director, Sue Morton, said the standard of work contributed by local youth was very impressive and done to a very high calibre.
"The imagination and creative talent expressed by our local young people is extraordinary and this show is a great opportunity to showcase their talent."
Local artwork from Midhirst, Pembroke, Kaponga, Toko and Ngaere primary schools, as well as Stratford High School are also on display to compliment the exhibition. The exhibition finishes on June 14.
