The Jump Jam phenomenon has taken New Zealand schools by storm and for a group of boys at Eltham Primary School, it has led them to regional and possibly national success.
Jump Jam encourages active movement through easy aerobic routines, set to fun songs and the Year 7 and 8 boys
at Eltham Primary took to the programme so well, they decided to compete in the regional Jump Jam competition.
Held at Devon Intermediate School, the Eltham boys blitzed the other teams, taking away a well-deserved first place, and earned an opportunity to head to Auckland to compete in the national Jump Jam competition this weekend.
"They were fantastic! The hall erupted after the boys had finished," commented Principal, Liz Malone.
Teacher at the school, Kim Boddie, has been coaching the boys but said their success was thanks to their own hard work.
"They got to choose a Jump Jam routine and were allowed to change a third of the choreography and they all had ideas to improve it. They have been practising in their play and lunch times to perfect their moves and impressed other schools so much that they have been invited to do performances around the district. I am very proud of them and what they have achieved," said Kim.
The team is unique because they are the only competing Jump Jam team made up entirely of boys and they hope that this will be the X-factor that wows the judges at the national competition.
Dressed in white flares and black tops with Afro wigs, the boys' 70s theme is also sure to be a hit.
The team leaves for Auckland on Friday and will perform on Saturday night at the ASB Stadium.
