"We are able to do what we love doing, supporting ourselves while also supporting other local artists and craft enthusiasts. Plus we are doing it together, so it really is the perfect work-life balance for us."
For mother and daughter team Tina Willan and Cherie Dodds, opening 'Home-Made', their new art and craft gallery and studio shop in Stratford, was a natural progression. Tina says she and her daughter had been talking about going into business together for some years and the timing seemed right this year.
"I have been working from a studio in Hawera, while Cherie has been working full-time as well as running a website to sell her craftwork. We have also been going to craft shows and markets, but wanted a more permanent base where we could work together."
An added bonus for both is being able to have Cherie's baby daughter Keira in the shop with them.
"She gets lots of Nanna cuddles," says Cherie, "and it means I am able to spend this precious time with my daughter while still working."
