"We wanted to recognise the courage of the individuals who came to Kristen's aid, as well as to show Kristen that Stratford is still a great place to do business and that she has our support."
Peter Dalziel, chairman of the Stratford Business Association (SBA) says after reading in the Stratford Press of the attack on local business owner, Kristen Shen, he and the other board members wanted to do something positive for her as well as for the people who came to her aid.
"Stratford is a great place to live and work, so it was shocking to read of a local business owner being subjected to an attack in broad daylight. If it hadn't been for the actions of Terrance, Pete and Tony, the outcome could have been much worse."
As reported in the Stratford Press on December 14, Kirsten was walking to her car on Juliet Street at 5pm when a man tried to grab her car keys. In the ensuing scuffle, she was bitten and hit by the offender who was then chased off by Terrance Sayers. Pete Martin then gave chase, and ended up in an alleyway where he and Tony Howatson managed to wrestle the offender to the ground and hold him until police arrived on the scene.
On Wednesday, December 21, Peter surprised Tony, Pete and Terrance with a presentation of $100 of SBA vouchers each on behalf of the SBA.
"It is people like these three who make our town such a great place and they are deserving of thanks for their actions."
The SBA also presented Kristen with $100 of SBA vouchers, "Kristen has worked very hard in Stratford since she opened Nami Sushi and we didn't want her to lose faith in the town after the attack."
