Auckland sailor Jo Aleh's bid for world youth championship glory slipped after a patchy fourth day's racing at Madeira, Portugal, yesterday.
Aleh, who sails out of the Kohimarama club, was first by a point from American Paige Railey going into Wednesday's layday. But 15th and seventh placings yesterday dropped her tosixth on the standings on 31 points, 10 behind leader Railey.
The best-placed of the New Zealanders is women's Mistral board sailor Anna Eason. Two fifths yesterday put the Bucklands Beach competitor into fourth, a point behind Spain's Blance Manchon. Poland's Zofia Klepacka, on eight points, appears to have the title sewn up.
The other crew in line for a medal are the 420 men, Scott Kennedy of Kohimarama and Torbay's Alistair Thompson. They are fourth on 40 points, despite a disappointing 17th in the second race yesterday.
They trail leaders Nathan Outteridge and Ayden Menzies of Australia, by 30.
Men's board sailor David Robertson of Kohimarama is sixth on 43 points, 26 points behind leader Mariano Benitez of Argentina. Laser sailor Luke Judge of Kohimarama climbed one place to eighth, 28 adrift of leader Ricky Ironmonger of Australia. 420 women Olivia Powrie and Sarah Bilkey, from Kohimarama, are 10th on 59 points, 49 behind leaders Australia.
